Pros

Opportunities to contribute to improvements in global health (although all too rare due to poor management). Relatively good salaries and benefits while the job lasts.

Cons

Managers are mainly interested in personal agendas. Very little innovation. Stifling management practices. Job security is quickly eroding. Merit counts for nothing.

Pros

In priniciple, staff have opportunity to influence international and national policies and practices affecting preventive and curative health in countries at every level of social and economic development.

Cons

In practice, decision making is highly centralized, innovation is not encouraged, and staff spend a great deal of time in inefficient administrative tasks.
