Pros

Incredible access and exposure to clients including governments and civil society organizations, and ability to work on wide range of issues if you are a generalist in a country office where there is a need for labor.

Cons

Unsure career path for locally recruited staff -- especially younger -- who enter as consultants and want to progress to full time 'staff'.

Pros

Very good benefits (although that may change with the New Bank come July 1, 2014), depending on the department/unit you are in you will find many forward thinking and positive people. Can be a challenging but rewarding environment.

Cons

All depends on where you end up working. There are still many from the "old boys' club" which can make for a frustrating work environment that is more concerned about hierarchy then getting the job done.
