Pros

noble mission, challenging and interesting work (help countries develop faster and move out of poverty), international environment (great multi cultureal experience), travel to interesting places, good work-life balance

Cons

There is too much bureaucracy compared to the private sector, and career growth is quite slow especially once you get to mid-level positions.

Pros

Working with bright colleagues from diverse backgrounds to help countries reduce poverty and achieve greater prosperity.

Cons

Exceedingly bureaucratic, navigating Bank politics, both within one's unit and in other units, has a profound impact on one's career advancement. Further, as a consultant, there is no job security and wages for U.S. nationals, after taxes, are lower as compared to net rates for non-U.S. nationals (despite the assertions by the Bank to the contrary).
