Used to be great, now is terrible

Pros

The World Bank still has some brand name across some circles, it's still one of the big international organizations so it has the diversity and cache that you would expect. The place is nice, and among many, there are a few staff that shine.

Cons

It's a huge bureaucracy, morale is terrible, the work is more irrelevant every day. The mission "a world free of poverty" is only a slogan. Ninety nine percent of the staff contribute to the well-known continuation of this mission statement: "... one staff member at a time". The quality of the staff has dramatically come down in the last 10 years.

Pros

Very high quality peers, exciting and fulfiling work, widely varying international exposure, feeling of accomplishment and opportunity to make a valuable contribution.

Cons

Slower and more bureaucratic decision making in comparison to most private sector peers, excessive international travel in certain positions, limited opportunities within the finance industry due to somewhat lower visibility of the details of the work done.
