Pros

Good opportunities to work on a variety of topics and issues throughout the world. Its a good place if you are staff.

Cons

Very clear tiers between staff and consultants. Latest managerial decisions have been dismal for institution which has very little regard for its employees in general. Bloated management and a lot of speak about inclusion and fairness but little in practice. Sexual harassment and bullying rampant in some areas (certainly not all) and no accountability in that regard. With latest managerial decisions poor morale in general. Consultants have very poor benefits and many time do the actual work for a lot of dead wood.

Pros

Did not realize how good I had it until I left. Some of pros: - People - Interesting projects on leading development issues - Benefits - Travel / travel benefits - Networking - Global office infrastructure

Cons

There are frustrating aspects of the culture: - Decisions made based on politics - Excessive internal bureaucracy - Slow moving - Lack of professional development - Dependence on consultants

Pros

Flexible and family friendly. Great location. The cafeteria is out of this world. The gym is brand new. A great place to work at if you are an economist or social scientist. Otherwise, stay clear.

Cons

If you are in IT, please do not join the bank. The pay is subpar, job security is nil. If you stay, prepare for a trip to the 1990s and lose all relevancy in the job market. You will be stuck at the World Bank, because nobody else will hire you with your irrelevant skills. An extremely political environment, very resistant to change. A lot of arrogance. Prepare to be shouted at and ostracized, if you dare to speak up.
