For Americans: Terrible company to work, For Indians: No Choice

Pros

If you want to work with zero guidance or supervision for a year or two, this is the place to park yourself while you look for another better company. Otherwise, forget it.

Cons

If you are an American working in the US: --- Zero guidance or supervision from your manager in India --- Most of these managers in India care only about mundane details and claim to manage "by data" or " by the book". But many of them are seriously overpaid for the very little value they add to the company. None of them are leaders. --- The company's VP and SVP's are terrible leaders who care nothing for the productivity or the happiness of their employees. They claim to manage "by the numbers" which means staring at their Excel spreadsheets and sending you emails berating someone why they did not make a particular obscure company metric. None of them will stand up to Wipro management to make the necessary change even if they are VP's or Senior VP's. --- Many of the leaders in Wipro are very old timers and have a big "entitlement mentality" because they think they "built the company". So the "leadership" is essentially not interested in making any positive changes to boost morale or productivity. It is mainly interested in preserving its jobs. If you are an American, stay far away from this dysfunctional company. If you are an Indian, tough luck!

A Backup at Best

Pros

- Benefits are nice - They seem to be taking chances on hires so opportunities to meet people of different backgrounds - Opportunities to learn - training programs aren't spectacular, but there is a training period along with some down time during that training to learn on your own - Possible to stick to 9-5/8-5 - Large global company - resources, job security, etc.

Cons

- Salaries below average - Heavily focused on clients and upper management; direct managers and supervisors do a poor job of supporting their employees. Employees are typically at the mercy of clients and whatever upper management thinks needs to be done to satisfy them - High turn-over - I feel like this is only ever fine if you're able to a.) Keep a steady stream of either top-talent or self motivated individuals, b.) Properly accommodate for necessary knowledge transfers, and c.) Know how to maintain your company culture in spite of the turnover. Wipro does not seem to meet any of those criteria. - More will always be expected of you with little gratitude, much less compensation - Toxic management throughout - The longer you stay the more you'll see it - Large global company - bureaucracy, coordinating and communicating across different time zones and cultures, etc.
