Opportunities to advance are minimal, and based off of if management likes you, not actual merit or skill. This is why so many people brown nose the management and waste their time socializing here instead of actually working. Then this is why the client complains about having such poor quality data, and why management complains about not having enough time to do anything... well duh, when you waste time chit-chatting with your subordinates this is what occurs. Management isn’t skilled at controlling their testers especially the problematic ones who make life miserable for everyone else that management doesn’t care about. You are told that you are being held to strict performance standards yet there’s no consistent weekly progress reports being sent out so you don’t even know half the time how you are performing.
