Pros

Fun ski industry culture, even at corporate. Free ski pass.

Cons

Little opportunity to advance. Pay is well below industry standards. Management is the worst I've sen in my career.

Pros

Most of the people are wonderful to work with. Vail has good hires. Leadership development programs are some of the best I've encountered.

Cons

After about a year at Vail, headhunters began contacting me for positions that DOUBLED my salary. The pay is abysmal. Great place to learn of you're new in your career, but just like everyone else, you'll find better opportunities elsewhere. The entire company is a revolving door. Somehow the company thinks there is value in constantly training and losing talent rather than retaining it. Vail is a ski company 1st and marketing / technology company 4th. Everything they do is about 5 to 10 years behind the curve. Like someone else on here said, no one expects much of you or anyone else. If you are driven and love to work hard, you won't feel empowered to succeed and do your job well at Vail. If you want a family or want to just chill at work, Vail would be great for you. No one at the VP level or above knows what it is you do anyway. Projects are long, bloated, cumbersome and innovative at a snails pace. Tons of red tape to do anything.

Pros

Great discounts and free ski passes for family

Cons

Toxic culture with a lot of good words but no actual behavior to back it up. No empowerment for employees to make their own decisions. Finance organization is a mess with constant turnover and a young CFO that has likely never managed anyone before taking this job. Before accepting a job here make sure you ask your hiring manager about turnover in the role and what happened to the last 2 or 3 people in the role. Also, don't count on any diversity- no people of color in any significant management role.
