Pros
VMware is the only place selling innovative system software, and making real money at it. While you can do systems work at other companies, those companies are selling either hardware or support, and the fact that your contribution as a software engineer doesn't drive the business will undermine the importance to your management of the work you do.
Cons
VMware has grown very, very fast over the last couple of years. There are a lot of new employees to enculturate, and a real risk that our culture of excellence will get diluted.
