      While it boasts a friendly work-environment, VMware ignores individual accomplishments, rewarding only mass success.

      Pros

      I supppose the best reasons for working at VMware would be for the benefits; the stock options, a really cool, new "Green" campus, the buzz of working for a semi-public start-up software company, interesting people, medical, dental and life insurance...etc.

      Cons

      Oh there are so many downsides, how can I list all of them? If you are part of the "working force" (i.e. not an engineer, sales-person, or marketing tech) you are NOBODY. No matter how many times you confront HR or your supervisor/manager, you never feel a sense of worth. Loyalty is not taken into consideration, dedication is not a factor. You can be with the company for years, and never see appreciation in any tangible form.

      Pros

      VMware has the best hypervisor available hands down, both for servers and the desktop. VMware is widely respected in the computer industry. Somehow, the management is sane and the company is structured in a really engineer-centric way. Low paperwork / bureaucratic overhead for developers. On top of that, it's a fun place to work. Free food / candy / drinks in the kitchens. The foosball tables are used pretty regularly amongst the staff.

      Cons

      Specter of some of the monolith competitors hang over the workplace (i.e. Microsoft).
