      Pros

      Employees are treated well. In fact employees can get away with anything. There are no pressure to work late. Come and go as you want as long as you get your work done.

      Cons

      Lack of talent at all levels of management from the top down. No process. No communication. The only way to get promoted is politics, not how well you perform. To much fighting between teams. VMware employees and management forget that they are competing with other companies and not internal departments. Too much money being spent on stupid things.

      Pros

      Salaries and benefits are great. Corporate culture is laid-back, not cultish like Google, not confrontational like Microsoft. You're not expected to work 12 hours a day. Stock options were a good reason, but not so much anymore with the collapse in the stock price. Politics is mostly absent here; you get promoted on ability, not ass-kissing.

      Cons

      The plummeting stock price. Chaotic management changes. Parking nightmares. Too much isolation between groups; there are some groups which are off completely in their own universe and are in dire need of some heavy-handed technical cleanup, but there is nobody with the authority or desire to do so. The cafeteria at HQ sucks.

      Pros

      Cutting edge technology -- great technical environment. Ton of industry respect and enthusiastic customer base.

      Cons

      VERY engineering centric environment that totally disrespects the role of marketing, product management, support functions. Total disregard for traditional human resources support infrastructure including significant nepotism and rewards for "yes" men. Complete lack of respect for individual input, initiative and experience.
