Pros

It's a woman's home depot! Everything you need to feel beautiful under one roof. What's not to love? Great makeup at your fingertips (Both high end and commercial mass products), professional artist come in to show you newest trends, a salon in house to get pampered, and GRATIS!!! It's like being a counter manager of 16-20 counters. As the Prestige Manager position is concerned, the company is moving to a part-time model for all new stores (with a decrease in pay from their full time counterparts). But there is great growth potential as new stores open every year even with the poor economy.

Cons

You are not a salaried manager with fixed hours. You will be paid hourly and your full time hours can range anywhere from 30-40 hours. There is no overtime, and don't work any because you will be written up and/or not paid for your time. Getting the prescribed training completed can be very difficult as payroll hours can vary, and often training hours are cut to aid floor sales. You would think you'd invest the training hours as consultants would sell more on the floor. You will have to become creative on how to train your associates while they are selling on the floor.

Pros

You will receive a 25% discount on products and 50% discount on salon services. A few times a year, the discount can be as high as 40% off of products and 60% off of salon services.

Cons

Employees in managerial type roles who have no knowledge of cosmetics and lack customer service/people skills. Hours are cut so drastically there are not enough employees to assist customers. This is frustrating for both the customers and employees. Lack of training for employees. Lack of incentives for employees other than employee discount. The pay is very low. Salon services are not paid for at the salon. So the customer has to come and wait in line behind all the retail customers. If the customer wants to add a tip to their charge, a manager has to approve it first. This causes the customer to be inconvenienced as they have to wait around for a manager to come approve their tip.

Pros

There was tons of free product given out, as well as gifts given for in-store and inter-store competitions. The atmosphere was vibrant and lively, and the discounts were good. The managers were big on educating us about product, so I left ULTA feeling like I had gained a lot of information about not just the products, but about all sorts of aspects of beauty and personal care. Our ULTA was also particularly close-knit since we put together the store, and opened and ran it with the same staff. The managers were super understanding and encouraging people-- an overall great place to work!

Cons

The staff room in the back was very, very small. Long hours to be standing, and a lot of time was spent with nothing to do. Our break system wasn't the best, and we had very little time to eat during our lunch blocks. They also made us carry these really tacky transparent purses to make sure we weren't stealing any of the product, which made it a bit uncomfortable during that time of the month. The stock room system was also really messy, which made restocking difficult, and finding out about product nearly impossible, but you figure out your own system eventually.
