Pros

Decent starting wage. (My) Co-workers were friendly and easy to get along with. You're not pushed to make sales unless you're down a considerable amount.

Cons

No raises or recognition at all for hard work, so don't go out of your way for them. Low hours. Rare advancement, the entire time I was there, only two people were promoted, but other than that, they brought in inexperienced (in both the cosmetic world and in managerial skills) "managers". Even if you tell you're manager of something, and she ok's it or tells you "that's a terrific idea!" and it could impact you negatively, you take the heat for it, NOT the manager.

Pros

Employee discount is a definite plus. Friends and family weeks are a great way for those close to you to reap the benefits of your job.

Cons

Upper management has no clue as to what really goes on in their stores. Lazy, and uninspired managers are hired. Often times they delegate tasks that THEY should be doing to employees instead of doing them for themselves. Drama is insane.

Pros

They give a store discount.

Cons

Working for Ulta as a Salon Manager was difficult under the best circunstances. The company doesn't understand the relationship between the client and the stylist, and therefore provides no privacy between the actual store and the client in the salon. The atmosphere is a very well made Great Clips, but with very high prices. Clients don't tend to return because they don't connect with their stylists. They provide no receptionists and no waiting area. As the salon manager, you are held to a weekly quota of services, plus a week's worth of paperwork. If you try to offer any suggestions as to why this set up isn't working, you are branded as no being a "team player". It is all work and no reward. The salary is low- 34,000, and they find every reason they can not to give you a raise. I have nearly 30 years of experience as a hairdresser behind the chair, and I have owned my own salon and this company ground me right down in a litle more than 2 years. Their expectations are unresonable. I don't know who is advising them for running their salons, but I think I'd switch.
