Pros

I loved the discount (of course) and I also enjoyed that when I was promoted to lead I was able to talk my manager into giving me more flexibility with my schedule.

Cons

Ulta says they won't work part time employees more than 20 hours a week, but then I would get scheduled for 30-40 (when I was going to school full time). This might not suck, if I hadn't had to work crazy shifts like opening at 5 and then closing until 11 right after. In addition, the pay sucks. I was promoted and received NO RAISE! Eventually, I was given a paltry raise, which was sadly more than most people in the store. Communication between corporate and the stores is terrible, but we get in trouble if we don't do things the "corporate" way. At my store, the schedule was NEVER written before Thursday or Friday the week before. As in, if you worked on Sunday, you wouldn't know it until the Thursday or Friday right before. Try making any sort of plans for appointments with that schedule. Management expects all employees to have 100% availability, which is ridiculous for a part time minimum wage job. They also don't "believe" associates about school schedules, and get mad when students "can't skip school." Get real! In short, Ulta asks for a lot from hourly employees but gives nothing back. I wish I had started at a different store so I could have made more.

Pros

- some of the co-workers are great people and are fun to be around - gratis, whenever you actually recieve it, is always good

Cons

-The Management are completely and utterly incompetent - When requesting for time off if it is one day short of 14 days notice you are given grief about it or actually black-mailed (true story) - The pay is terrible for the job and what they expect given I have worked other, higher-end places that pay much better - NO COMMISSION, yet there are sales goals? that's laughable - Managers are rude 90% of the time and will blow you off if you have to correct your schedule or need something of them - A lot of talking behind people's backs and A LOT of jealousy - Unfairness! Management stands around and chews the fat but when you do the same for a couple minutes you are immediately told to "disperse" - Nit-picking over stupid things like the wrong pair of shoes - The entire dress code is actually ridiculous given they sell Revlon and other mass cosmetics. - There are cameras in every inch of the store yet they still treat their employees like thieves when in reality, the customers are the ones doing ALL of the stealing - There is no communication between members of management. If you tell one person, it will never get back to the store manager or another manager. No matter how many times you remind them. - When you do a job well done you are never complimented, they focus on the negative only.

Pros

The fifty percent discount on salon services and 25 percent store discount on products. Great place to work if you're a college student. Great for the person that wants to work 8 hours or less, weekly.

Cons

If you need consistent hours and a steady income, this is not the place for you. At times, there can be angry customers and professional shoplifters. Ulta can't seem to keep their "best employees."
