Totally Depends on Which Office You Are Stationed At
Pros
Your experience will vary wildly depending on your Post Office. My home office is currently understaffed. - Many hours available, so great potential for high earnings and overtime - Medical Insurance coverage - Solitary work where you can focus on getting the job done independently - Support from fellow carriers
Cons
- Terrible work-life balance / impossible to make plans - your schedule will vary wildly depending on the mail, so it is so difficult to make plans while in the beginning of your career here - Time is money at the post office - you will feel pressure to get things done as quickly as possible, at all times - USPS recently cut the salary of many long-term regular carriers, so there is a dark cloud over the company at large right now - Outdated communication and dated online tools (nobody teaches how to really use the online platforms for USPS - you will need to dig and figure things out yourself. The software is clearly dated, and in need of updates. Scheduling is done only on paper - you need to take notes or pics at the office to keep records of your schedule and hours).
