Class training good. Field training not good.
Pros
View normally unseen areas of the area served by station you work. This can be interesting if you work in your own county. Work with dedicated people in a highly organized environment tasked with taming chaos. If you are fast, you can get back most days in less than the "evaluated" time.
Cons
Lack of staff means EVERYONE is overworked and basically on call if someone is on vacation, sick, slowed by vehicle issues, etc. or another postal office needs help. Very hard for full time employees to get a reduced stress day. The very old vehicles are uncomfortable, loud, dangerous in all but good weather and unhealthy to operate. The always increasing number of Amazon packages make the job less manageable. No one I was aware of took an actual lunch break in order to beat the clock. Also, few rural places to use the bathroom without leaving your assigned route. Mangement tried hard to make things work for me but 90 days with a manic pace and obsessive regular carrier was not tenable for me.
