Pros
Love the dogs I met on route and some of the people
Cons
Overweight Amazon (our office scale was always "broken" when I would ask for a weigh. BTW, this is bad for your vehicle, most vehicles are not made to carry the weight of some of these routes packages. They should advertise that new employees need to come in with a Uhaul truck to deliver in. Management naps in thier office (makes 6 figures a year), Clerks are basically covering bad managements assetts. Our carriers were not allowed to request customer pick up thier own overweight items because the clerks didn't want to deal with said items. They preach saftey then send you out with mail, packages, advos, flyers, and throw in SIM notifications along the way several days a week (those are where your scanner will have you stop at a specific location and scan in the items you have for the mailbox). I always had those notifcations on the busiest, most dangerous roads of the route. Remember, SAFETY FIRST! You have to get your packages delivered, it is imperative to the bosses BONUS so if you have to be out until 9:30 pm in the dark, in a thunderstorm, tough luck. The bosses bonus is the MOST IMPORTANT thing. You will get a per mileage reimbursement 68 cents, which will not cover anything relevant. You will be responsible to drive and maintain your own vehicle and you will sink every 4th paycheck into that vehicle for tires, oil changes, damages due to the crap roads you will be made to drive and the damage you will get because rural folks don't always maintain their driveways and yards. You could end up in a culvert you couldn't see because a homeowner didn't cut thier grass or mark the area with reflectors, you will have flat tires on a regular unless you pay an arm and a leg for 10 ply tires. This job will COST you money to work it. Trust me.................for $20 an hour, go work at McDonalds, at least they have a bathroom available, A/C and heat and NO WASPS and insects flying in your face during the summer. Oh, and you'll need snow chains for winter because, YES, they will send you out in bad weather conditions. Any damage you incurred to your vehicle because of bad weather will be your own responsibility. You will be expected to stay within the "evaluated" route time no matter how overburdened your route is. They expect a 12 hour job to be done in 6 hours. Save your sanity, save your back, save your money and save your time by NOT working here. You will easily work 12-14 hour days on a regular and be expected to do it with a smile and a great attitude. Oh, and you will have NO LIFE outside of this job.
