Pros

Fair pay for the most part

Cons

Good pay when you actually get hours Full time regulars think they have privilege no matter what so time off is always a problem when someone lower on the totem pull tries to take off. Not really any kind of work life balance when you are new or have not made regular because you can either work Monday - Sunday. Or you can not get scheduled at all based on seniority but get the privilege to work every Saturday and Sunday. Also, not a very great job for stability. Some pay periods you might get 90+ hours and others you might get scheduled on a Saturday and that’s it. When someone calls in you also have to take over and cover their route as a substitute RCA. So if you had plans say goodbye there is no making plans. Also, something else that is not the greatest is a schedule change when you are not around and no notification that you work the next day, so then it is your fault. Not a lot of accountability at the post office.

Pros

Best place I’ve worked at. From what I’ve read that’s definitely depending on location. But good supervisor’s and a good post master definitely make a big difference.

Cons

Long hours have to enter at least five words

Pros

Rural and City carriers have their own unions and the pay is livable.

Cons

If you are not the fastest paced worker you know, don't work here. If you have a disability, don't work here. It takes a certain type of person to work as a carrier and if you don't fit in that box, they will get you out ASAP. As the new person they will work you like a dog and try their best to offload anything they can get away with onto you. If anything is too inconvenient for them, they will "forget" to take it with them and then the post master will put the workload on you to finish their work. They push "speed" to the limit of reckless endangerment. They set routes based on mileage, so they set up these extremely inconvenient routes that would take the average person about 14 hours to deliver all the mail and packages to buy they want it done in 8 hours. Then you'll see other carriers complete their routes in 4 hours but I've driven with these lunatics. If you don't hold onto something, you will leave with a concussion. I don't know about city carriers but rural carriers can be some of the cruelest sociopaths I have ever met and I wouldn't wish that kind of job on my worst enemy.
