Pros

Best reason to work at UPS would be the benefits; or so I hear. I joined after they had changed their policy. It used to be part-time employees received full-time benefits right when they started, but now you have to wait a full year before you are eligible. I have yet to experience the benefits though, so I can't tell you about them. Also, the workout is great. I no longer need to go to the gym. ha. But all of the guys that I work with are extremely hard workers and UPS sure does get the 9 bucks an hour out of us.

Cons

I have yet to hear a "good job" from any sort of management. We work out butts off and there is no gratitude from the boys that are getting the bonuses. I see it as another person on here wrote: "be prepared to bleed brown". Most of the drivers work at least 10 hours a day, and that's not easy work- they are constantly walking back and forth, lifting boxes weighing as much as a person and freezing their butts off in the winter. All for around 25 bucks an hour.

Pros

The company is very strong and there is definite stability. Since there are many facets to UPS, pofessional gowth is a positive as well. UPS is an ideal company to start a career with, not necessarily so for one in their mid career depending on the position. Strong brand recognition and gaining solid experience will be a plus for any resume. UPS wants to retain and promote from within so have expectations to be there for the long haul if you truly want to make a go of it. The company is relatively flat, there are many supervisors and managers, but at the same time there is plenty of promotion opportunity.

Cons

Work/Life Balance is nonexistent. According to UPS, there is no deadline that can go unmet, no matter how insignificant. Also pay is not in line with performance. You wil often find that salary for positions is at or below average for a given role or industry. Very conservative policies. Expect to be stretched thin and not necessarily rewarded as you feel that you should. In many cases, it may be difficult to advance your career, depending on the group that you work in. There is a tendancy for certain managers to "tap your brakes" since there is an approval process to be considered for supervisory roles.
