Pros

Great benefits! Stock contribution (note it does take five years to earn 2009 contribution--you get 20% each year). They promote within the company. They attempt to not lay off as much as possible--job security.

Cons

It is militaristic environment. The culture is a bore. Very operational driven. Many meetings that do not get a lot accomplished. Involved in many philanthropies, which require donations (strongly urged and noted). The longer you have been with company more opportunities to move up. Long hours are required. And low pay in comparison to industry standard.

Pros

The money. That's the only reason that anyone stays.

Cons

Everything else. I remember being so excited when I received the job offer, having such pride and excitement to work for such a reputable company. The only employees in my district in the business development dept that are not looking for another job- are those that have 15+ years already put into the company and feel they are stuck. I've never been treated with such disrespect. Their theory is "manage by exception", which means they will always find something wrong with your performance and tear you down accordingly. There is no "good job" ever uttered within the walls of any UPS. The public has such a wonderful perception of such an awful company and it is truly baffling. My only suggestion to anyone going through the long two month hiring/interview process would be to get out while you can. RUN. The management believes in motivation by fear. Recently spoken on a conference call by the highest operations official in our district; "Fire one and they'll all fall in line." (For no reason, he just wanted a BD employee to be fired so that the fear is always instilled in us.)
