Pros

I gained valuable experience teaching in a 3td grade classroom. There were seminars in which all interns and a supervisor got together and discussed teaching methods and what they observed in the class room. Everyone was very kind and supportive! CA Teach also offers resources to help their interns earn their credentials after the program if they with to continue with teaching (which I personally did not).

Cons

Travel to school via bus was not reimbursed directly. There were no perks, promotions, or benefits, which is to be expected since this is an internship with the program.

Pros

Pay and benefits are great. Lots of good people.

Cons

Management and Unions are both big kids; reactive and vengeful. The work environment breeds a sense of mediocrity. Lots of cheating and people trying to beat the system. Favoritism and unequal policies are abundant. Definite division between those who work in offices and those who don't. There is a general lack of trust between management and workers which goes both ways. If you work blue collar, even if you have a college education, your chances of moving up and out are nill. ie: Favoritism.

Pros

UCLA is an amazing university with a variety of learning opportunities. Location (Westwood) is excellent. My department, Electrical Engineering has good faculty and a fantastic reputation.

Cons

Considering the cost of living in West LA, the stipend that graduate student researchers receive is very low. More than half the stipend goes just towards rent. Enrollment has increased dramatically in the past few years. As a result, popular classes get over-crowded and it has adversely affected the quality of teaching.
