Pros

good benefits, resources, professional development, holidays, times off

Cons

one bad egg can ruin the whole bunch, underperforming staff are not disciplined or removed. People become very complacent in their positions and it's hard to get work done.

Pros

Nationally known experts interested in mentoring younger colleagues. A tremendous place to learn to do high quality research with practical policy relevance. Excellent connections.

Cons

Low salary. Positions funded by soft money, but there always seemed to be money around. Advancement is dependent on publishing.

Pros

Teaching Assistant salary is nothing special, but benefits are great and tuition cuts are incredible. Great facilities across campus, and research tools and library system is top notch.

Cons

Large institution with many adjunct faculty members coming in and out of teaching positions. Makes it hard to track down former professors or colleagues within the university.
