Administrative Incompetence & Poor Outlook

Pros

The students are great! I appreciate UCLA's communicated values, and there are some great employees there.

Cons

I was shocked at the level of administrative incompetence at UCLA. It takes forever to get any administrative task completed, and lots of balls get dropped. I constantly found myself nagging others to do their jobs. The sad part is that I don't think it was due to individual employees, but instead due to chronic understaffing because they are underpaid and underappreciated. My direct supervisors were also intense micromanagers; despite having managerial roles, it was clear that they had never had any managerial training and were not able to run an effective team. There also wasn't enough opportunity for career advancement.

Pros

The students are amazing and continuously blow me away with their passion, drive, and intellect. Hard-working colleagues who keep you going.

Cons

Poor administrative leadership. Lack of transparency is the standard culture. No merit increases. If you work hard, you're punished by being assigned more work without additional pay.
