Upper management is out of touch and tone deaf, with no tech skills. Universally hated my everyone who isn't new or a chronic brown noser. Decisions take a while to be made Long vertical structure/chain of command Pay rate is low compared to the private sector Academic environment can foster eccentric personalities and department cultures The squeakiest wheel often gets the grease
