Pros

Other members of the production team are generally great, especially those based in Wilmington. Management is very flexible and accomodating

Cons

-Sales treats production like dirt a majority of the time. -so-called "career path" is a joke. If you stay on the PM track you get a title bump, but no additional responsibilities, just expected to do the same things faster than before. Management track is less of a joke, but there realistically aren't many chances for that sort of mobility. -No consequences for team members who don't pull their own weight or constantly mess things up, even when it's the same issue repeatedly. Management doesn't do anything other than issue a verbal warning, which has taught some team members that they can get away with anything, which only exacerbates the problem.

Pros

- Great colleagues, you get to work with people from all over the world. - Getting hired is pretty easy; as long as you have a university degree (in anything), are not too fussy regarding salary and make a decent impression you're in.

Cons

- No company culture: Friday drinks were rare and would start late because everyone had loads of work to finish first. Other than Friday drinks, no activities were organized by management. - No compensation for over hours. All project managers made loads of extra hours without any compensation or recognition (sometimes staying until midnight or coming in during weekends). - Not to mention that the salary in the first place is just a bit above the legal minimum. Also, raises are rare and excuses will be made up as to why they can't give you one. - Very high staff turnover. In the short time I've worked there the entire group of PMs left and were replaced by a new bunch who are currently all looking for new jobs. - The bonus system is a joke. Always when people complain about low salaries or long hours the bonus system is brought up. The sad reality is that this in no way makes up for the long hours and heavy workload. - You will constantly have to cheat and rip off the freelance translators you're relying on to complete your projects. Due to the ridiculous mark up that is handled by the company the budget left for translators is insultingly low, which often leads to translators dropping out of projects or delivering sloppy work. - Management doesn't seem to care about anything and the division president just seems to try to keep everything afloat until he can retire.

Pros

-I made some lifelong friends during my time at TransPerfect. -Lots of hands on business experience. Good way to get your foot in the door coming right out of college.

Cons

Despite the positives that I listed above, my experience as an employee at TransPerfect was a nightmare. For starters, the compensation plan is a complete joke. Granted it was my first job out of college and is an entry level position (account manager), but I was barely scraping by in a position that usually earns around $20k more than what I was offered. The absurd part of it is that I was in a sales role where there wasn't any sort of commission plan. Anybody who I've told that to outside of the company has said that they've never heard of such a thing. How do you motivate your salespeople to sell if there's no commission plan? People in upper management will tell you that the incentive is in promotion to account executive, and that most account managers will be able to earn the promotion within 6-12 months. However, even with the promotion you only earn a slight increase in your base salary (from $40k to $45k...if you're lucky) and your commission plan is only around 2% of each proactive sale that you make...again, that's if you're lucky. I've heard of account executives earning only .25% commission. On top of everything else you have a toxic work environment. Upper management is abysmal. My manager picked on me for no reason and made me feel like I was constantly on the verge of being fired. Take note, too, that I was one of the top performers in the office, yet there were people below me who couldn't meet their numbers that my manager absolutely loved. For whatever reason it was personal to him. The worst part about it is that particular attitude is extremely pervasive throughout the entire upper management team. It's a culture of entitlement and is totally unprofessional. The worst part is that everything I've said is only the tip of the iceberg. I could go on for hours. I'm thankful for the opportunity that I was given directly out of college, but there are definitely better options at other companies. I managed only 10 months there and half of my time was spent looking for another job so that I could get out. Avoid TransPerfect at all costs.
