Pros

What can I say? I learned how ugly business can be.

Cons

When I started translating, upper management contacted me and actively encouraged me to request purchase order corrections. Now I'm reading that Transperfect deducts hundreds of dollars from their bonus for every "faulty purchase order" accounting has to correct. (So if your bonus doesn't reflect what it should, now you know why). Likewise, project managers are actively encouraged to deduct word counts if needed to meet the high markup required to get a bonus. It sounds to me like they have created a system where the two teams who have to work together have been pitted against each other. If one wins, the other has to lose. But the owners always win. I

Unethical and Greedy. STAY AWAY!

Pros

Lots of work... if you care to work for nothing.

Cons

I processed hundreds of projects and this unethical company implemented every trick in the book to not pay the full amount. We do the job you sell and we struggle to get paid. Project managers are very friendly, but they are not linguists. Project managers tend to be new graduates who just want to work, but they don't know the consequences linguists face when they deduct word counts and rates, delay purchase orders and delay payments. They don't know that what they do is not acceptable in the translation field. Again, we do the job you sell and we struggle to get paid. Accounting doesn't answer emails and they stopped replying tickets. Think about the linguists who do the job you sell.

Pros

- 5 o'clock Friday happy hour

Cons

- The hours are 24/7. You are expected to be on email at all times of the day and night, without any compensation for your time (including weekends). The in office hours are M-F 8:30-6 (but expected to be there earlier and stay later). - Co-workers hook up/sleep with each other, making it a disgusting work environment - It is frowned upon to take time off for vacation/personal/sick days. - You are given the legal minimum holidays off. Every day you are expected to work. - If you do not share the same views as the company you are treated unfairly - The pay is the absolute minimum, with no compensation for the hard work you will be forced to put in - You will be tricked during the interview that there is so much potential to grow. Do not believe it. - An all around disgraceful company that I would never recommend for anyone to work for.
