This company is too inflexible to succeed

Pros

Some awesome people work there, but that’s true anywhere

Cons

This company is strictly top-down, so there’s not much room for doing anything besides what the CEO wants (he throws tantrums during meetings and seems to lack self awareness and emotional intelligence) Any ideas that aren’t in line with his perspective (the perspective of a wealthy white cis-hetero man) are unwelcome The company seems to be opposed to diversity and inclusion, which dovetails with the lack of openness to new or different ideas Employee surveys that gauge how happy people are at the company are not anonymous, and people who are unhappy for any reason or those who might disagree with the way things are done are more likely to be fired than heard It is obvious from their ongoing struggle to attract and retain talent for their freelance pool as well as internal employment that their unwillingness to adapt to a changing environment is not a successful business strategy Nobody has really heard of this company, so it’s not even a good name to have on a resume They brag about providing talent for big name companies but those companies source from a lot of places, so this doesn’t make Toptal special Probably a decent place to work if you’re a white cisgendered heterosexual man who fits into a rigid organisational structure, doesn’t ask too many questions, and finds comfort in thinking exclusively inside the box.

Pros

Work Remotely and not have a commute

Cons

Terrible management, unprofessional process, people wasting your time. All of the employees seem more focused on their lifestyle than quality work or solid process. Do not come here expecting to pick up good habits

We take a tremendous amount of pride in our company culture, and strongly emphasize hiring driven, disciplined people who can hold themselves accountable while working remotely. We do not tolerate anyone who is just looking for a “lifestyle company” and is not motivated by building a world-class remote organization. Given that, we always have an open door policy for feedback. If there’s anything specific you’d like to share, don’t hesitate to reach out to the People Operations Team at any time.

Blame and Fear

Business Outlook

Pros

* Good pay * Remote work * Somewhat Flexible

Cons

* Micromanaging * Toxic environment * Disrespectful team members * Managers have no leadership skills and will insult you if you disagree with them * Lot's of blame and finger-pointing when something goes wrong with no one taking responsibility * Roles are not defined, so your responsibilities change almost daily, many times not finding out it was "your responsibility" until after there's a problem Some of the people were helpful and knowledgeable, most were not and truly lacked leadership and communication skills. Onboarding is a joke and new team members are frequently blamed for mistakes made by older team members or managers. My manager told me to take good notes during meetings then told me I was the problem when I caught him in lies or mistakes. Take if you absolutely need a job, but keep looking because you do not want to stay here long.
