Pros

$12 hourly @ 42 hours a week 11.3% commission on total dollars billed. ASE's Paid. Good deals on Tires. On a busy week. Working only 5 days, I can easily bill $10,000 worth of work. In commission dollars for me that's about $1000 in commission in one week plus my hourly pay of $650. It's possible to make this on a regular basis, if you are a skilled tech like myself. I had this job exactly two months before I decided to leave. I grossed over $10,000, but the money wasn't everything...

Cons

Doing other people's come backs for free . Having to pay $30 per hour to work on your car. Pay weekly for uniform washes. Having to do work on other employees cars at the discounted rate, and making commission on almost nothing. Always having to wear safety glasses. Dirty shop. Lack of communication. Low hourly rates. Someone has double wheel torque, and oil change steps and sign off on every work order. Garage doors open manually only. Can use your own parts. (must be purchased through the shop 10% over cost)

Pros

Gain experience with a wide variety of vehicles, employee discounts are decent, they pay for ASE certification.

Cons

Managers are left to run their store how they see fit, so if you get a manager with a superiority complex and mood swings (like my manager) you will be at the mercy of someone who is never wrong and willing to argue and threaten your job on a daily basis. The sales staff and management have very little automotive knowledge, but all have the ability to threaten you with termination as they see fit. Add that to low pay, a schedule that changes without notice, and a laundry list of other problems and you are left with an idea of what it's like to work for Tires plus. And don't even think about calling corporate about unfair treatment, your concerns will fall on deaf ears.
