Pros

Its a fun job to have if you like kids and sports. It is usually in a convienient place to work, and the hours are usually flexable. Also when you ask for time off, its usually given with no questions and long as your a reliable employee.

Cons

Its not very organized or proffesionsal. (e.x. dont get paid for orientations). I personally dont get very many hours. And they dont let you clock in for things that you should get paid for. ( i have at least put in 10 hours of work that i am not allowed to be recodnized for). Also communication with some of other employees is small.

Pros

Good work environment, they are willing to train you for your next job, retirement package good. Great opportunity to make good friends. The day to day work schedule was relatively relaxed and the hours could be adjusted some of the time.

Cons

frequently increase responsibilities without adjusting pay, benefits are not truly as good as they make them out to be. There were many weeks I was working in excess of 50+ hours a week for the same small pay. Lots of nights and weekends at times.

Pros

That's simple - the children! You have to understand that most of these parents enroll their children in the YMCA because they simply cannot afford a better pre-school. Despite the low cost for parents, I think that the YMCA has very high standards. On the other hand, they don't pay their employees well and ask for an extraordinary amount of extra work, beyond childcare. And now they are requiring assistants to take a 3 credit course on childcare every semester - and they have to pay for it themselves.

Cons

The pay is very low for assistant teachers.
