In my experience, support was lacking and the culture felt overly competitive in an unhealthy way. It often seemed as though people were focused on protecting themselves rather than collaborating as a team. The environment felt very much like “you either survive or you don’t,” which can become draining over time. There is likely a reason the company now promotes “Life at Tesla” events—to improve perceptions of a culture that many employees have found challenging.
My own time at Tesla was extremely disappointing. The culture felt intense, unsupportive, and at times more focused on image than on people. It often seemed that unless you were fully aligned with the brand and unwilling to question leadership, you didn’t really fit in. Having an independent opinion or perspective outside of the company culture did not always feel welcome.
There are undoubtedly talented people there, but based on my personal experience, I would not recommend it as a workplace for anyone looking for balance, respect, teamwork, or a genuinely positive environment. Too often, it felt like colleagues were willing to undermine one another rather than support each other.
