Unfortunately, I was laid off without notice in the middle of my shift one day. The managers looked truly upset that they were having to let a few of us go. Apparently some people at HQ looked at some metrics from their office and decided who they would let go without consulting with the local managers for their input.
This is a company that has a great local atmosphere at all of the stores I worked at in Southern California, and it can be swept out from under you for absolutely no legitimate reason at any time. If you are going to work here, my best advice is to not be concerned with going above and beyond with helping out around the store and impressing your immediate superiors. You should only be concerned with the metrics you are being judged on for your ONE specific role at the location. If you start helping out with other departments,making the store more cohesive in general, and learning other aspects of the jobs at a location, this may impress your managers, but has zero impact on whether or not you will stay at the company. It will merely give you a false sense of confidence from people who ultimately do not decide if you stay or go.
