Pros

Lots of great people, open environment, "fast fun and friendly", commitment to doing what is right for the guest and for the team member.

Cons

Thin-skinned people. More focused on not offending people than getting a message across. Focus on work/life balance does not extend to management ranks -- only individual contributors. HR has too much power. (can't hire/fire someone unless they approve). Workplace is way too stuffy. TOO MANY MEETINGS

Pros

Flexible schedule, store discount, nice people, fun atmosphere, close to home, lots of variety in positions and even in daily work.

Cons

Sometimes seems like the workload is heavy and hours are cut back which makes it hard to complete things and feel like you are doing your best job.

Pros

Speaking only for the distribution centers, the pay is very good for unskilled labor. $4-7 per hour more than similar work at most other employers. Wal-mart and Sysco are the local exceptions. The 401k offers a 100% match on up to 5% of pay. However, the fund choices are mediocre. Pretty generous vacation accrual amounts. Two weeks after the 90 day learning period, three weeks after five years, four weeks at ten years, and five weeks at 20 years. Good luck remaining employed long enough to reach those levels.

Cons

Target has changed for the worse during my nine years with them. The current work environment is how I always imagined Wal-mart to be. Promotional opportunities are non-existent; it's 'once an hourly, always an hourly'. Most of the newly hired managers are straight out of college and haven't had so much as a paper route or grocery bagger/burger flipper job before starting at Target. It's definitely a 'my boss has never done my job' workplace. The work itself, as you would expect of warehouse work, is mindless and unbelievably boring.
