Pros

Target has some smart young folks working for them. Their management tends to be thoughtful without being overbearing, although sometimes they can be rough around the edges.

Cons

Like any company, you'll have managers who have been there forever and are difficult to work with because they will never leave or never listen. Retail also presents the typical "working with people" problems, although Target is less onerous than most because they really encourage you to be on the customers side and do not penalize you if you're trying to do the right thing.

Great company and great best practice

Cons

They don't promote from within. If you have a degree never accept a position lower then salary you will never move up

Pros

You can advance quickly and most people change jobs every 2 year so its not boring. There is a lot of available movement in between different areas of the company: merchandising, finance, IT...

Cons

Definitly a cult of personality. Far to much weight is put on your personality and "bubbliness" versus your actual job skills. With so much movement between pyramids, many managers don't have the technical skill sets for jobs they are given. Working at Target feels like being in middle school. People (even male managers) gossip constantly and there are mine fields of cliques to navigate. Be prepared that any feedback you give (personal or technical) will be turned around as a criticism of you. There is no black or white, only grey that you have to market yourself through.
