Pros

Working for a Bank has some status including decent benefits, possible networking for your future career. If you are looking to be a politician, this company has all the politics you need to gain experience (To be honest, many publicly traded finance companies operate in a similar fashion, just a fact of life).

Cons

Three cultures blended together in a short period of time. TDFS bought VFC (sub-prime lender, different focus on auto finance than Prime). TDFS then bought Chrysler Financial which formed TD Auto Finance. The lack of transparency for the customers and employees through this process has really stunted the success of this company. I was advised on several occasions by management that when postings are put up on the internal/external job forums, they already have a candidate selected and it is there just for a technicality. There is high turnover so it is difficult to network with management. Managers are often shuffled around when their department closes even if that person is not the ideal candidate or has little to no experience. Little is given back to the employees for appreciation. A majority TD employee appreciation events employees must pay out of pocket for (i.e BBQ appreciation events, employees must pay to attend and enjoy food and drink), ironic because this usually comes out after a quarterly report on how profitable TD was. Senior, mid level and lower management are just is not on the same page. It leads to conflicting answers and creates a difficult, disconnected work environment. It really does start from the top.
