Pros

- Flexible hours - Slightly above average holiday allowance (if you pay for it)

Cons

-Toxic management, only good for pushing slogans. Roles generated for staff that do absolutely nothing past a certain level. -Dreadful work coming in at some offices particularly in the North, that will give you absolutely no progression to your career whatsoever. -No willingness to help staff develop, you quickly become just another number to push boring, repetitive work onto. - Terrible corporate slogans being pushed all the time, something that upper management seem to spend an awful lot of time brainstorming. - Management above line manager level is slow to react, vague and will actively block any attempt at innovation. When the odd piece of innovation does slip through the cracks, do not expect any credit for your work. -Experienced bullying from multiple sources, including upper management, clients and colleagues. Nothing has ever been done about this, as unless it is effecting profits there is no motivation. -So many companies being bought out by Stantec that it is hard to keep up with new employees, working practices and current values

Pros

Some good people, but other than that, none that I can think of.

Cons

This company promotes narcissistic individuals into management. The Surrey office suffered for years under tyrannical leadership that created a very toxic and demoralizing environment. Management was abusive towards staff with lots of pressure to bill clients aggressively in order to inflate utilization rates. Upper management turned a blind eye and let this go on for years and did nothing about it despite a long list of very unhappy staff that left for less toxic environments. A similar management style has spread to the Burnaby office. Beware. Avoid Stantec Vancouver also as management there are unscrupulous. Do not work at this company unless you want to ruin your career. An absolutely horrible work experience and environment.

Pros

Stantec is a large, global firm and fairly consistent.

Cons

The marketing and communications management team employs a "good old girl" network. The relationships at the top are not only insidious, but unfair. There is an environment of feeling like you are in high school which can be extremely disheartening. Those promoted to leadership roles achieve this because they are liked - not because they actually have merit or skill. Outside of Stantec, these "un"professionals would never rise to their level of success at this organization. That does NOT bode well for the department. If you want to move up or grow, or be respected for your contributions, find another place to work.
