Pros

They give you a week of paid time off at the winter holidays, as long as they had a good year financially. Yes, this is the best incentive about the firm.

Cons

Globally: They're an acquisition hungry firm. Having gone through one myself, they focus more on the next firm they're going to gobble up than focusing on how to improve the ones they've already purchased. Not every former company fits into your super super corporate mold. I've felt like I work for the Federal Government sometimes. Emails from corporate never feel personal or believable. Locally: Stantec sort of killed our office culture... Slowly people have started realizing it, and when it starts to affect them personally, they leave.

Pros

The company itself is great, if you are a technical person. Had lots of resources and benefits. Good culture. Good people.

Cons

The Marketing team, and specifically the New England Regional Marketing team, is run by people who are there because they got in at the right time, not because they should be qualifications wise, and you will never pass them based on your hard work or merit. They treat you like adult daycare. You are overworked to the bone and in return you get very very little with zero growth opportunity, recognition, or small allowances to show you apprecoation. I have been there a while now and have seen some great team members leave because of frustration over this and I will ultimately leave because if this too. Further, at the management level, which is really sad, there is a lot of gossip, backstabbing, lying. I haven't been directly involved but I can't believe what I have seen/heard. It's unreal. So unprofessional. Again this seems to be very much isolated to Marketing and specifically in the NE region.

Pros

Great benefit, salaries, and on a local level very professional and capable people to work with.

Cons

Stantec's senior management is very good at producing propaganda geared to make its employees believe they are a top tier employer. This propaganda is frequently contradicted by their actions. The slogan says "One team, 'infinite solutions" however the entire company is setup to discourage cooperation between offices and 'profit centers' (what most people call departments in real life). If one profit center uses people's skills from another profit center, or office, your profit center looks less profitable. If Stantec's profit margin formulas are not met senior management is knocking on your door. A very senior manager within Stantec once told me "The shareholder and profits are number one, Everything else falls well below that." The same manager also said "Clients should be honored to have Stantec working on their project". Since when should clients be the ones who are honored to have a consultant working for them? It should ALWAYS be the other way around, no exceptions. Employee and Client satisfaction is not high on their radar, yet without keeping those two happiest profits will not follow. Their total inability to adapt to a changing market, regional differences, and new technology is hampering their actual growth. I worked with my former firm for nearly 10 years before it was enveloped by Stantec. For almost two years I worked under Stantec's rigid rule before I left on my own accord. Stantec can blame the economy all they want for the failures in my region. These failures only began to occur once they started running my former firm their way. The fact remains all other firms in my region were and are flourishing, except Stantec. Stantec has grown substantially over the years, not by great work but by enveloping as many companies who are willing to sell out. Big promises of management positions to the current acquisition 'victim' which are quickly stripped away and given to the next foolish company who falls for their very well rehearsed, hollow sales pitch.
