Pros

SpaceX has created a work environment that fosters engineering freedom with little bureaucracy. As a result everyone works together on projects that interests them and are encouraged to see things through to completion.

Cons

Combining the large number of new projects with both a limited workforce and supporting existing designs through production, the amount of work expected from an individual can sometimes be overwhelming. That being said no one is working those long hours alone and on any given hour of any given day there will be people there.

Pros

Making a big difference in a high profile project that is awesome. Even interns make decisions that have an effect on the rockets. You are a rocket scientist. The pay is standard and you get some stock or options.

Cons

It can be nerve wracking to have that much responsibility. People complain about long hours, but that's more of a function of the individual and how they manage their time.

Pros

Great place to be an ambitious engineer. Lots of responsibility and autonomy. Easy access to resources and hardware. Ability to influence the product and company. Clear high level goals and vision. You get to see your hard work launch into space. (and on a short timeline from project start) Plenty of projects. Learn a lot in a short time. Fun corporate culture. Work hard, play hard. Stock in a company with high growth potential.

Cons

High stress and workload. Flip-flop short term corporate directives. There are short term needs and really long term goals (medium term is ignored). Unrealistic schedules and equally poor communication of schedules. Poor mentoring, project management, and planning. The person that yells the loudest gets their way. Lots of cultural and process growing pains as the small/scrappy RnD company is growing up to be a big production company.
