Life at SpaceX

Pros

One of the best jobs I have ever held. Unlike a lot of work environments, the people at SpaceX are really smart and nice. Very friendly and accepting atmosphere. Projects are challenging but reasonable time lines are given to get your work done right. All the right support is in place to enable one to get their job done without a lot of running around.

Cons

Physical space is at a premium at SpaceX. Labs are cramped and finding a lab bench to set up a long term project is difficult. Politics seems to be in play on how space is allocated.

Learning every day!

Pros

As a senior engineer it is difficult to find a job where you still get to do a significant amount of learning, but SpaceX is constantly challenging and there are amazing subject matter experts from whom to glean knowledge. It is incredibly exciting to manage a team of people here, as for the most part, the standard of employee is very high.

Cons

The more responsibility you take on, the more your day is filled with context switching. It can be exhausting. Work/life balance is a challenge, but the company is aware and while expectations of your workload are high, there is an attempt by management to balance the sprints.

Pros

Work with cutting edge technology on a day-to-day basis. Individuals have a huge level of responsibility. Inspiring mission and feel-good sense of accomplishment in your work. Can create your own projects as long as you can justify them.

Cons

Accomplishments sometimes aren't recognized. Compensation is largely determined by one person in the organization, meaning if they aren't in tune with your projects, you get short-changed. Very flat organization, while good in many ways, restricts career growth for engineers wanting to move into leadership roles.
