Pros

The biggest pro for me - there is nothing like watching a launch that you were a part of. It doesn't get old. It's just as exciting every time. For each launch, you've poured you energy into improving your existing systems and installing new ones to make every mission easier than the last. The work environment at SpaceX is unlike anywhere else I've worked. You're surrounded by people who are passionate about their jobs and doing what it takes to get to launch. I had gained more responsibility for systems in the first 3 months of my employment here than I had in a year and a half elsewhere. That being said, whenever I need a hand on a project or someone to bounce ideas off of, it is amazing how willing people are to help. From day one, you're working on systems that directly impact launch. You gain independence incredibly quickly, but know that support is available whenever you need a hand on a project or someone to bounce ideas off of. Like any job, there are pros and cons, but I love my job.

Cons

Funding is tight and schedules are aggressive. It can be demoralizing for some projects.

Pros

Once you prove yourself, you are truly given tremendous amounts of responsibility and autonomy to significantly contribute to the company's overall mission and success. There are always opportunities to stay challenged and engaged. Innovation remains at the core of what we're about, and support for "the best idea wins" is championed from the very top. Specifically in Vandenberg, we are a smaller, tight-knit group who rallies together to tackle any challenges in order to achieve successful launches.

Cons

There are times when we surge and work more hours to achieve our goals, but they are always tempered with opportunities to relax on the downswings. Taking time off for personal endeavors outside of work is always encouraged and supported.

Vandenberg Launch Pad

Pros

SpaceX in general is very challenging place to work in a good way. You will always be learning new things and pushing the limits of what you are capable of. This is probably the thing I have enjoyed the most about working here. Management is also always pushing to improve things. Coasting is never acceptable. Vandenberg specifically is a very close knit team that still has some of the small company/startup family feel that sometimes can be lost at the larger sites.

Cons

Pushing to meet unrealistic schedules sometimes causes people to make decisions/compromises that in the long run could have been avoided. This causes projects to become more expensive/time intensive than if the correct dates had been given from the beginning. With time this has gotten much better and is trending in the right direction but can still be a struggle from time to time.
