Pros

The job itself is fulfilling and you learn A LOT very quickly. The people are great if they aren’t in management.

Cons

Everyone is on mandatory 50 hour weeks as a base schedule. Management is the definition of micromanagement. They set you up to fail constantly, and you can’t advocate for yourself. In the interview they told me they are a company of “best idea wins!” But I’ve only seen “management idea wins” and they always seem to jeopardize the mission. Because of bad decisions from management, everyone is put on mandatory 60 hour weeks. This is always the management solution . It’s impossible to feel good about the job with the management in place.

Pros

You get to work on amazing technology that changes the world.

Cons

The recruiting department is extremely toxic and a few horrible “managers” keep ruining it for everyone. Attrition is awful and the leaders don’t care at all. They continue to allow those few individuals to internally sabotage the team. Over 20 recruiters quit in one year

Pros

- Bringing internet access to this planet while inspiring humanity to become a multi-planetary species is an amazing mission to be part of - Great people, being so mission focused attracts top talent that is both smart *and* supportive of their coworkers - Challenging work with a high degree of personal responsibility

Cons

- If your team is on a critical path to launching the next thing you will be pressure cooked until you deliver or become overdone and quit. Everyone will support you, but it's up to you to cope with the pressure - Other teams can be a bit more relaxed. No one will force you to work sixty hours a week, but many people do that anyways so it's easy to feel pressured and burn yourself out - Team culture is highly dependent on your lead. Most are great technically, but few do much to build team culture. Hiring great people with a shared mission makes up for that to a surprising degree, but we could definitely do focus more on career development, inclusion, reducing employee turnover, etc
