Pros

Never a dull day, always something exciting happening somewhere in the company. Watching launches with your team, or outside mission control always renews why we were all there. Lots of good food options with all the different places to eat. In the right departments and with the right projects, people can thrive and learn a ton and really use it across the company.

Cons

work/life balance blows hard. sometimes 14-16hr days aren't enough and when you leave, you can be made to feel guilty for ditching the team. Emails never stop and always need answered. Management can flip around a lot; I went through 8 manager changes in 4 years. Certain departments can be toxic and have no room to move up while others have so much turn over you can move up quickly (watched a guy go from a planner/scheduler to Sr. Manager inside of 2 years and I'm not quite sure why or what he actually did besides throw buzz words around directors and VPs, he never produced or improved anything). Also, parking sucks even worse now that there are apartments going in across the street.

Pros

-Food (quality) -Flexible hours -Culture: very open; wear what you want, speak your mind (except to upper management) -Lots of opportunities. It's easy to get lost in tasks. Know its YOUR career - and take control so that you are growing yourself; not just always fighting fires.

Cons

-Company expects a LOT from you, and you will be treated like you can be replaced anytime with a younger, more energetic body. -Poor work life balance. It's up to you to use your time wisely, and know your limits. -Production are a bunch of cliques. You're either in, or not. Get rid of them! -Compensation drops significantly after 5 years. -COL is high in LA, yet the pay is the same at all locations. -Stock given out nowadays is negligible. Compensate by giving salary that is at least competitive. -Stacked rankings -Elon changes his mind on what he wants on a regular basis. Sure the company is his conception, but he is not helpful. He often sends company wide emails asking us to change what our focus is. It's never thought through - and tells everyone to drop what they are doing; attend the next fire; all while what we were working on's fire keeps growing. Oh, and schedule doesn't slip because of this - he expects we just take on more because he said so. It's obvious he does not think of any details if you listen to what he says (eg. company meetings) Can I live with the above? Yes. Do I love it? Yes. But I doubt I'll stay after my stocks are invested.

Pros

The work is amazing. The mission amazing. The contracts amazing. There are thing you do there that you will never be able to explain to anyone but will fill your heart with joy and give you a sense of confidence and purpose like nothing else. For the duration of your time inside spacex you will smile and live in awe of the place and the people.

Cons

You will trauma bond with your co-workers. You will see them develop drinking problems, stress related health issues, psychological trauma. You will eventually break under the load. You can do EVERYTHING right and because someone else broke the weight will shift to you and destroy you. You will be redlined for years working for them. And by the end you won't even realize what a ghost of a human being you have become. Budget a year of recovery time doing nothing difficult after you leave, at least. I don't regret taking the role. I just wish I knew when to pull the cord and get out.
