Pros

SpaceX is an exciting place to work. Elon Musk has the courage and funding to do what people were saying for decades--quit tweaking 1950s technology--and combine lessons from the past with cutting edge manufacturing technologies. Lots of incidental perks, from a really good on-site restaurant to fancy coffee machines. The software challenges are probably just about right for many engineers and the corporate goal of Mars settlement is one that could change history.

Cons

Not really Cons, just caveats. It seems as though many people find the programming challenge given to job applicants hard. It seems to be a fairly good match for the difficulty of much of the Flight Software work, so if you don’t find it especially hard, and complete it successfully well before the deadline, you might not find the work as challenging as you hope. If you are a participant in open source activities, ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) makes for a huge hurdle. Hours expected are sometimes long enough that some people nap at their desks. Most of the software developers are pretty junior. Glad I read other reviews because it gave me a pretty good idea of what to expect.

Pros

You will get to work on interesting projects and be a part of an exciting mission.

Cons

Your job demands 100% of you so it's really hard to de-stress and leave the work at the office. Work/life balance is not really a thing. You more or less are buying into Elon's mission and, as a result, whims. There is an absolute breakneck pace of all projects where everything is late from the point of inception. There are high levels of organizational chaos/uncertainty where the turnover is severe and important people with disappear very abruptly. Overall I'd say that it's a very young organization chocked full of super intelligent, idealistic young people. This is great, however, there is a severe lack of engineering wisdom that comes with experience. Hubris is a thing. Safet.

Pros

Good food. I'm actually really in love with Elon Musk and I deeply believe in his mission and excelled at my work when when people literally prevented me from doing so. I'm a young black female so it was very nice to have the opportunity to network there and enjoy all the amazing employment benefits. I admire Elon Musk as an entrepreneur and the ability to be the amazing underdog he is while and quieting the naysayers. You put America back on the map with our recent launch and it brought literal tears to my eyes. I couldn't stop screaming and praying while that launch was happening and I'm sure I bothered my neighbors like I was amped up for a sports event, but I digress.

Cons

There is a very sinister and dark vibe here. I worked hard for three consecutive years and applied here about 5 years ago only to be denied while people less qualified have been allowed to be apart of this great mission while antagonize me as the only black woman in my entire department and really for as far as the eye can see. So I applied here again based purely off my newly refined resume of extremely related composite background experience. In a previous smaller mom and pop company I have was recognized out of hundreds to be flown to Ohio to receive state of the art training my heart could only dream of. So once I was more qualified I was stoked to finally become a full time employee based off my hard work alone. But that wasn't good enough...Racism is fostered and allowed here openly. You will have multiple supervisors and leads to cover the issue versus address the clear issues there so it is a breeding ground for hostility in a certain department, especially for black people in this racially tense era. The unprofessionalism here I have experienced is in the level of the Twilight Zone so you must GET OUT because it is mind boggling. Everytime I tried to prevent issues I was silenced only for them to become worse. Crabs in a barrel-like mentality. Stay there long enough and your bright personality becomes a crab.
