Pros

Being an account manager or director gives you a lot of leeway in managing your account. Due to the nature of the business, I had a lot of independence from the higher-ups at Sodexo, where I would see my GM or DM once a month at most. Also, I really liked Sodexo back-office support. Utilize them if you need it, and they can provide a lot help to get you started. For example, reaching out to your HR department, and they can help you with the hiring. This goes for OH&S, IT, Payroll, Finance folks as well.

Cons

Your experience will vary greatly depending on the client and contract. I started in the Healthcare division and it was miserable because it was a terrible contract in an intense hospital environment. Jumping to another division, I suddenly felt like my work-life balance hit a nice equilibrium. As the account manager/director, you are squeezed between the client expectations, Sodexo senior management, and labor unions (if applicable). You have to answer to a lot of stakeholders! Also, your career is based on the life of the contract, which is the nature of the business that Sodexo is in. I think the people who are at Sodexo for the longest tends to work on the corporate office, not at the account level.

Pros

Very friendly colleagues Nice office location (next to a wood) Recent acquisition business for Sodexo, so things should improve Newly appointed CEO from other part of Sodexo, who hopefully wont tolerate 50%+ of the Cons and enact change Legacy IT migration & New product rollouts plans in place and seem achieveable Relaxed atmosphere Remote/Home working for some Flexible hours for some Have good solid product range with some the envy of our cometitors Brands have good industry reputation Revenues plateaued rather than fallen so growth in 2019 more achieveable Most of IT is in house

Cons

Over promising under delivering to clients Poor pay/benefits compared to competitors - meaning we lose the best and the weak stay Competitors have caught up and overtaken us in Products, Delivery and Costs New companies entering our industry sector and are making waves fast, making us look stagnant in some areas Increasing high staff turnover Unresponsive / Inept HR Lots of managers are new appointments from just prior to acquisition and appear to be in situ due to time served/loyality/lack of alternatives/gender parity stats rather than talent/ability to do the job Recent internal feedback survey confirmed most employees are 'not engaged' (Ironic as we work in Motivation and Engagment industry!), feel lack of oppourtunities to progress and bad senior management Lots of Prodcuts/Services we sell to clients are not practiced/sold internally to staff Lots of wasted productivity Huge difference in departments working mentalities and output which breeds distain between them Lost some very good senior staff and not replaced, resulting in the few remaining good managers being over burdened, worried they'll leave also Some shocking acts of 'Its not what you know, but who you know' appointments Hardest workers are usually paid and rewarded the least Remote workers coming into office 1-2 per week can be distrubtive to staff who dont have that option (espically when they arrive late/leave early) Costly and ill thought out migration of some programs after aquasistion which probably cost old CEO his job Office is rented and in dire need of improvement. Toilets break on a weekly basis, parking is terrible Place to cook food and eat but woefully to small for circa 300 people Too many shirkers/slackers who hide from scrutiny Intenal recognition system is openly abused by larger teams (voting for each other) so they win most of the time

HR focused organization

Pros

Quite a bit of flexibility as a manager as far as "work/life balance" goes

Cons

This is a very bloated company. Instead of focusing on operations, efficiency and beneficial technology, everything is HR focused and the primary objective is to decrease liability.
