Pros

Shell claims work life balance and full time regular employment but it actually like a fixed period contract with the risk of job insecurity - every employee has to look and apply for new job within Shell after fixed period (max 4 years) like finding a new employment and has to leave company if unsuccessful even individual performance rating is excellent. By design, Company hide this policy from the prospective employee before joining Shell India otherwise good talent (specially from Oil & Gas Public sector) will shy away from the company.

Cons

Shell India want to hire best talent (renowned experienced professionals, IIT graduates) but provide no job security. These best talents are fired at any time without assigning any reason. Shell believes in hire and fire policy but will not say in open. For example, Shell India hired new IIT graduate to honour their campus commitment but will also fires their senior from previous years at the same time to keep the number in check. Shell also claims career progression for employee but there are many examples where excellent experienced profession are forced to leave company jeopardizing their career ambitions.

Pros

Work Life Balance, Good Offices and Amenities, Global HR policies, Employees Health and Safety

Cons

Reviews which do not fall under IT might be true, but when it comes to IT, Shell is no less than any other service based company. Most of the employees that were settled down here, earlier they used to work for shell account from Accenture/Wipro/IBM. Hence there is a preference for hikes & promotions to the people from the above companies. In the past few years a lot of people who used to work as contractors from those companies were made permanent employees. In some cases without any such visible requirement. This has resulted in unnecessary increase in headcount. Hence Global Leadership team decided to implement cost cutting in the name of Re-org. So Job security is the thing of past in Shell. Most of the managers or people in higher position will be from Accenture/IBM/Wipro, mostly Accenture. It can be termed as B team of Accenture. If you are about to join the company thinking that it is a product based company, you are under false impression.

Pros

Good pension benefits and there are some good professional people.

Cons

1) Shell have a disappointing habit of hiring serious and successful professionals from the sector and then dis-empowering them. It is very hard to succeed with the combination of clunky IT, overly heavy process that crushes innovation, and deep layers of politics to navigate. 2) Toxic environment created in electricity trading department. One red flag was when a very senior person said “people without mortgages are of no interest to me”. The implication was worrying and intimidating, with the behaviors displayed in the months to follow confirming the fears. 3) I was threatened and indirectly accused of intending to steal IP on the phone the day I resigned, by the same senior leader. It was a very upsetting way to finish my role and justified my decision to resign before securing a new role to move to yet. 4) The toxic management style lead to high stress, not conducive to innovation, happiness, or success. Not how forward thinking organisations should think about leadership.
