Pros

free gratis, the faced pace work environment allows you to deal with different types of clients in a short amount of time, brand rep trainings

Cons

no work life balance, no room for growth- regardless of what you were promised upon hire, compared to other cosmetic retailers, low pay, sephora feels that people who manage old navy, starbucks and pier one are great managers of cosmetics and beauty and will recruite these people to managament positions before promoting those who have a proven track record of exhbiting sephora standards

Pros

-Gratis -Freedom with your own makeup -Tattoos & piercings acceptable -Introduction to different worlds you may not have much knowledge about (Skin, Fragrance, and Color) -Friendships! -Seeing the different looks that clients and cast members walk in daily with -Ability to borrow many expensive tools to see how they work with your body/face -Three samples per shift -Getting to know the clients and their preferences -SOS (Science of Sephora) is offered in many places, with the opportunity to travel to San Francisco for a week. -Training with brands to learn how to apply their many products, and how to best promote them. -Contests -We can come in early and use products for our makeup for the day

Cons

-You will not move up easily unless you are friends with management. -Training is not offered unless you nag management constantly. -Searches every time you come in, regardless of being in the back or not. This can be quite awkward because it can look to clients passing by like you were accused of stealing. -Leadership is not always on the same track. Will be told to do shipment, and then another leader will ask you why you're not at your station. -Mistakes are not easily forgiven, regardless of lack of training (new girl forgot to get a signature when her pin pad was not working, LP came out and yelled at her in front of clients. For the next few days management would constantly remind her). -No training. I luckily had cashier training, so it wasn't difficult. We have new girls who've never worked on a register and are really struggling. They expect an hour of watching to be sufficient. -They do not like education outside of work, and will "try" to give you days off, but will more frequently than not schedule you for the day. -Unless you are in a world, any contest they do will not apply to you. The cashiers in our store never get to participate and when they do, they can never win: Largest $ basket, most client shout outs, selling the most "insert brand." -Many girls are put into color with no makeup experience, and are constantly degraded by clients for their lack of knowledge. -As with any retail store, most employees if not all, are women. Expect drama and talk. The walls do have ears, and everything you bring into the store that you didn't leave at the door, will be heard. -They are more likely to hire outside of store rather than promote within. -Full face required, everyday. -Only 5 pieces of makeup can be brought in, including brushes. If you buy from the store, it will be engraved.
