Pros

I worked in the SOC. It was good experience for me as I was still new to the industry. I was given SANS training and had two days working from home a week. I'm not sure if that's still a thing though as this was in 2016-2017. Management was flexible on snow days and would ask for feedback on what could be done better.

Cons

There was very high turnover on my team and no opportunity to move elsewhere in the company (outside of the SOC). I wasn't able to apply to certain positions I was interested in internally even though I held the same role for 2+ years. The job can get stressful sometimes as I didn't always have someone to escalate if I needed help. It definitely felt like it was sink or swim sometimes.

Growth that hurts

Pros

The people, mostly individual contributors and managers. The Executive staff and upper management will be in the cons section. The people are great, a rag tag group of individuals that make work a little less toil. Benefits are so,so, on par with most F500 organizations. Salary is definitely below market (explained in the cons section). Some positions are remote which is nice. Great work life balance. Most managers really do care about your personal well being and life goals.

Cons

I've been taught that if you don't have anything good to say don't say it. There are cons but these are shared by many corporations and not something the organization should be ashamed of. Acquisition by Dell and consequences. A big issue here was the acquisition by Dell. All accounts from before that time tell of startup mentality. This was before my time. But alas the problem here is that being acquired by a big corp like Dell you run into a lot of red tape. This has significantly stunted the growth from a technology standpoint. Silent layoffs and lack of transparency. There have been massive lay offs in the past year. None of these are communicated out and mostly heard about through word of mouth. This has a lot to do with the technology debt they face with being tied up with obligations to work with certain vendors (Dell mostly). Instead of having the ability to move freely. Like Eastman Kodak back during the digital revolution, the executive staff were afraid of trying new things. Unfortunately it has caught up to them big time.
