-This company used to be focused on it's people and coaching them to keep them with the company. Now it's all about the dollar. You don't feel like a valued member of the Sally team, just another number in their system.
-They severely changed the way hours are distributed within the stores. They used to reward tenure and encouraged it. Now they want managers to only hire people for 10-15 hours a week (and do not allow full-time hours to hire assistant managers) and expect these people to be completely flexible at all times and to be completely loyal to Sally. In reality, 10-15 hours is not enough to live off of and associates will either get a second job, reducing their availability, or quit altogether. It's a revolving door of associates, so management's time is spent constantly hiring and training new people, leaving no time for the other million tasks a day that they throw at us.
-As a manager, there is no work/life balance. Every minute is Sally's minute. We have been told that we will just have to come in on our days off to get things done.
-Upper management is supportive of only a certain select few stores (their money makers), and unsupportive of their stores that have trouble making quota. Instead of spending their time on coming up with a solution privately for those stores, they display their bad numbers and call them out publicly on district conference calls so everyone can hear how bad they're doing.
-Conference calls are mandatory, twice a week (usually Monday and Friday), usually during the busiest time of the day. Managers are told to be sure to schedule someone to cover the store (which is hard to do when you're constantly short-staffed) so they can sit in the back room for at least an hour to listen to/watch the call leader (generally the district manager) read verbatim from an email that we already got. It's a waste of our time as managers. Unless there is brand new information that we need to know about immediately, there is no point.
-Upper management (not all, but some) are petty and will treat you petty if you don't do what they want how/when they want. Constant fear of retaliation.
