Pros

Freedom of office, out in open road.

Cons

Work is erratic based on dispatcher and area. Hourly wage, so being busy is a must, and it doesn't always happen. No regards for weather. Constant contradiction on how to do things properly. Poor hourly pay, barely any increases. Good benefits. Micro-manage you to death!

Pros

The multi-faceted nature of the business SGS does, provides ample opportunities to learn and advance. This is especially true for laboratory analysts and inspection personnel. There's less advancement opportunities for the personnel who work behind the scenes (HR, IT, Procurement, etc.).

Cons

Major layoffs in HR and other sectors create a climate where employees remaining in those areas feel that job security is not a concern of the decision-makers of SGS... Disparate systems that should be unified, (HR/Payroll/Accounting) are not. Personnel hired following a major layoff are thrown into a confusing scenario where they likely want to make a difference and create change but find it difficult to do so from their position in a massive company like SGS. Abilities within the procurement system should be less rigid for individuals that are not in Rutherford. The process of ordering non-catalog/capex items and getting vendors approved should be more streamlined. I believe the lack of available procurement personnel in Rutherford also has a negative effect on the efficiency of the system. Communication about major projects between management and "underlings" is severely lacking. Dissemination of pertinent information is not forthcoming and requires repeated inquiries before that information is provided. Updates to a project that affects many people and ultimately, the bottom line of a business unit, should be provided without being prompted by multiple inquiries. Health insurance should be better/cheaper for a company this large. HDHC plans cover very little. Following HR layoffs, HSA deductions from payroll do not show up with any consistency.
