Pros

Good solutions, strong name, market leader. Great values on a corporate level. Great HQ.

Cons

Not very innovative in recent years. Has been caught up and surpassed by several competitors. The whole "Great Place to Work" thing is greatly exaggerated. Not better than any other place I have been to. Not necessarily worse, but definitely not better either. The satellite locations (i.e. non HQ) are run like any other company and not "the SAS way".

Pros

Supports people who take initiative to be cutting edge. Trusts people to do the right thing for customers and the business. The market is competitive and work is demanding but the business is flexible about work/life balance. The people are friendly and supportive. Managers and co-workers genuinely care about each other. Emerging leaders program identifies and grooms up-and-coming talent. Invests heavily in R&D.

Cons

It's been a fairly flat organization with low turnover so advancement can be slow, but with retirements increasing more opportunities are opening up.

Pros

In no particular order: * No one ever leaves (either voluntarily or involuntarily), so it's easy to get help and mentors are plentiful. * There are some smart, hard working engineers here. * Low stress. * Work/Life balance... emphasis on life. * Good IT dept. Machines aren't locked down and they are generous with the hardware. * Gorgeous campus * Good food. * Good fringe benefits, if you can use them (e.g. onsite day care, but I don't have children). There's also a very nice health center and a cemetery, so SAS has you covered cradle to grave. :-)

Cons

In no particular order: * No one ever leaves. When decisions are made, "how we've always done it" carries significant weight. Also, you want to change jobs? That's great as soon as they have an opening, which should be around the year 2245. * There are some really terrible devs here who are Senior and Principal no less. * Low stress only if the first bullet point and the next point don't bother you. * Work/Life balance... Just because you're blocked waiting on something from someone else isn't going to prevent them from going on vacation for a week. * Salary is below the industry because of all the benefits. * Very, very slow to adopt new technology. No seriously, it's a glacial pace of tech change here.
