Great benefits, poor career

Pros

Great health benefits, I enjoyed going to the gym and playing sports at lunch. I liked most of the people I worked with. Beautiful campus and almost everyone has a new office. I liked the 35 hour work week and that the company closed at Christmas.

Cons

No career advancement opportunities. No investment in employees, ie training or education. Salary was extremely poor and increases and bonuses were almost non existent at the associate/sr associate or career level positions. Lots of favoritism and little to no positive recognition by management.

Going downhill fast!

Pros

Fantastic people, enthusiastic, collaborative, great location and grounds at UK hq

Cons

What was once a brilliant company to work for is going downhill fast and no-one in senior management seems to be doing anything about it, despite receiving feedback from staff. Professional services senior management are being allowed to rule with a culture of bullying. Staff attrition is at an all time high. Management egos are getting in the way of making best business decisions. The level of staff satisfaction is at an all time low, with many people leaving or looking to leave.

Pros

In no particular order: * No one ever leaves (either voluntarily or involuntarily), so it's easy to get help and mentors are plentiful. * There are some smart, hard working engineers here. * Low stress. * Work/Life balance... emphasis on life. * Good IT dept. Machines aren't locked down and they are generous with the hardware. * Gorgeous campus * Good food. * Good fringe benefits, if you can use them (e.g. onsite day care, but I don't have children). There's also a very nice health center and a cemetery, so SAS has you covered cradle to grave. :-)

Cons

In no particular order: * No one ever leaves. When decisions are made, "how we've always done it" carries significant weight. Also, you want to change jobs? That's great as soon as they have an opening, which should be around the year 2245. * There are some really terrible devs here who are Senior and Principal no less. * Low stress only if the first bullet point and the next point don't bother you. * Work/Life balance... Just because you're blocked waiting on something from someone else isn't going to prevent them from going on vacation for a week. * Salary is below the industry because of all the benefits. * Very, very slow to adopt new technology. No seriously, it's a glacial pace of tech change here.
